Pickard saw an industry that was once very service oriented progress (or digress) into one that was driven by sales. For example:
Technicians were placed on commission, and the "up-sell" and "condemn
and replace" became the norms on how customers were treated. Technicians
try to sell you as much as they can because the more they sell you, the more
they make. (Have you ever wondered why, when you called for a check-up
on your system, which was working fine, it cost you $300-$500 or more?)
High efficiency equipment marketing by dealers and manufacturers would
have you believe that the higher the efficiency (the SEER) the more money you
will save. This is at best a half truth.
Scare tactics when it comes to your indoor air quality, in order to sell you
expensive filters and duct cleaning which may be of no benefit to you at all.
In other words, many in our industry have said, in essence, "Sell it, even
if they don't need it."
We believe people like you don't want to be conned by a service tech or
salesperson. We believe you don't want the hype, you want the truth with
enough guidance to make your own decision. You want peace of mind.
